How Do We Do This?

Here at iKs, we embrace modern technology and try our best to be as innovative as we possibly can! Take note however that this is a tad trickier, but we will endeavour to make your Music Video one we are proud to put our name to as well!

What you will need for ‘In Absentia’ Music Videos:

• A CD or MP3/4 player with speakers to play your song audibly
• A good video camera (With the highest resolution possible you can obtain)
• A Friend or a Few friends willing to assist you in shooting your performance
• A Selected Location/Locations for you to shoot your Music Video Performances

A Basic Run-Down of our Procedures are as follows :

1. Fill out our Music Video Preliminary Request Form to the fullest of your ability providing us with the most detail possible (This will also help you Clarify your ‘Music Video Mission’
   
   
2. We will review your Music Video Preliminary Request Form for free. Only if we feel we can give you our all to achieve the Absolute Best Music Video Possible will we proceed to the next step…
   
   
3. We will send you an approval notification complete with an Advice Brief on how to best approach your MUSIC VIDEO SHOOT from your end
   
   
4. Begin Filming with regard to the Advice Brief, which will advise you on Settings and Thematic Expressions… Remember to provide us with as much varied footage as possible, including Green/Blue/White Screen Background Shoots!
   
   
5. Capture your Shoots onto your Computer’s Hard Drive
   
   
6. Follow your Advice Brief as to the way to transmit the Raw Shoots Over to us for editing and Mastering.

The fact that you did not write this song makes you NO LESS of a PERFORMER, nor does it give you less right to express the song or perform it in a way you feel passionate about!

What Is Involved Next?

Your Music Video Set & Settings :

You will need to think of the Setting required that is appropriate for your Music Video:

What Mood is your Song trying to Convey? What are the themes of your Song?

Is it Dance-Oriented, requiring a dance setting, or is it a Deep-Feeling Song requiring you to express this through an acting medium (Such as walking along the beach, Singing and looking out onto the Horizon?)

 

Filming your Setting :

Once you have determined the setting most appropriate to your Song, you then provide us with the following minimum footage :
*A Dance and/or Expressions Setting*

• Remember that this focuses on the message you are trying to convey
  
  
• You have to select the most relevant Communicative Medium which applies to your Song – Ask yourself if your song warrants Directly Singing into the Camera, Dancing or Both.
  
  
• The more settings you provide, the more varied and interesting your Music Video will incline to be.

A) A Scenario Setting: Sing your song whilst employing a setting… i.e., walking on a beach. (The Camera should follow you as you walk) or even if you were sitting down throughout the whole song on a window ledge singing (Careful! Do Not Put yourself in dangerous situations!) *It is very important that you sing accurately and employ eye-contact directly into the camera lens…

B) Dance Setting Express your Song through Dance in this performance. Perform to your whole song. Pick a White, Green or Blue Wall in your home as a back drop (i.e., Background) and make sure you have a light source in front of you! Make sure you rehearse your dance moves to this song and then get your body moving to the beat of your song N.B. Very Important!* At this stage: Remember to look directly into the camera Your cameraman MUST ensure that your whole body is in the frame and in the direct centre of the shooting frame.

C) Engagement Setting No, you are not getting married… An engagement Setting is a close up shoot of you anywhere from your waist/abdomen/chest upwards, with your whole face in the frame. This is an opportunity to engage your audiences with your message/theme conveyed in your selected song. The tips for your performance in this shoot: Do not be overtly expressive in this shoot…be natural and sing as if you are engaging your audiences in a conversation about what you wish to tell them. Look directly into the camera when you sing- Imagine the camera is your friend you are chatting to over lunch!

D) Further Scenarios: You are the Master of your Destiny! If there are any additional modes of expression for your song through the Music Video, this is your opportunity to get them down on camera. If you feel you have achieved expression through the other settings, you can stop here! However, if you feel there is more to convey and you would like settings of your choice included, you may shoot up to 2 additional settings above the already designated ones! Remember that an average song is 3.5 minutes, so you don’t need too many scenarios, unless the song is multi-thematic! Audiences are easily overwhelmed!

Your Visual Background…. (*VERY VERY IMPORTANT!*)

• We recommend you Maximize your Options as much as possible.
  
  
• We employ Chroma Key Technology (Often referred to as Green/Blue Screen Process) where we are able to super-impose effects on a uniform-colour background.
  
  
• So, apart from your selected backgrounds, we recommend you repeat and film your performances on one of the following colour backgrounds.

Remember… A Music Video is the careful assembly of all the most salient clips in order to convey your message through Song and Dance.
We will do our best to achieve the best ‘Wow Effect’ possible for your sweat, tears and financial outlay!

• The Next Stage: Getting your Raw Shoots Over to us:

You Need to Bundle your Work Over to us to Edit and Master…

Your Options: 

• Provide us with the absolute hard Copies of your work (mini DV Cassette ONLY)
  
  
• Capture your work onto your Computer’s Hard drive and burn all your Work onto a DVD, which is easily sent to us

**(Last resort Option) Contact us to discuss procedures of submitting an e-mail attachment to us. We do NOT like or encourage this option, but we are willing to accept this if the other options are not available**

So, in Summary, our procedure are as follows:
